It's time to Finish the Job

The fight against malaria has achieved significant health successes. However, a child still dies from this disease every minute.Britain has long been a leader in this fight, developing the first malaria vaccines and helping to found the Global Fund. Recent polling shows public opinion supports the continuation of British-backed science's role in global malaria efforts. The decisions and actions of the next UK Government will be crucial to ending the malaria epidemic by 2030, and we need parliamentary champions who will push for action. We invite you to be a Zero Malaria champion, join the APPG for Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases, and advocate for the UK government to finish the job and end malaria.

Why is action necessary?

Despite progress, the battle against malaria is facing growing challenges like climate change and drug resistance.New technologies and medicines offer a chance to eradicate the disease, but the UK's role is still vital. With its leading life-science sector, Britain has developed key tools such as insecticide-treated nets and the first two malaria vaccines. The UK's support for organisations such as the Global Fund and Gavi ensures essential malaria tools reach affected communities.

Britain's Golden Opportunity

New research shows that achieving the SDG target of reducing malaria by 90% by 2030 could boost malaria-endemic economies by $142.7 billion. This could lead to a boost of $80.7 billion in international trade with the UK's exports to key African countries increasing by $453 million.

Who is affected?

The UK's partners in the Commonwealth are disproportionately impacted by the fight against malaria, with Commonwealth citizens suffering from over 50% of all global malaria cases and deaths. To find out more about the progress that is being made in those countries, visit our Commonwealth Malaria Tracker.
